The White Lady of Rožmberk Castle — Perchta of Rožmberk

A ghostly lady dressed in white wanders the castle grounds in Rožmberk and Vltavou, South Bohemia… Wherever you go, you’re sure to find a classic ghost story just like this. The infamous White Lady ghost of the Czech Republic is Perchta of Rožmberk. Lady Perchta has been forced by her brother to marriage with Jan of Lichtenštejn in the 1400s. The marriage was extremely unhappy full of overwhelming sorrows and cries for help. She constantly wrote letters of desperation and unimaginable pain to her family, however her cries for help were never heard.
When her husband Jan of Lychtenstejn was dying, he begged Perchta for forgiveness for his poor treatment of her, however she refused to forgive and and forget and refused, making Jan so furious that he put a curse on her "Till death do us part". Since then until now, Perchta wanders the castles her husband once owned. Her ghost has been repeatedly spotted in number of famous Czech castles such as Cesky Krumlov, Jindrichuv Hradec, Telc and Trebon

Born around 1429, she was the daughter of Ulrich II von Rosenberg and married to Jan von Lichtenstein. Her presence is said to bring good tidings, while her black gloves and solemn countenance foreshadow impending disaster or death. The White Lady is a symbol of the tragic fate of noblewomen in the 15th century, and her story continues to captivate the imagination of Czech history enthusiasts and storytellers.
